Assistant Marine Biologist

AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach, a luxury 5 star resort, will be opening in Labuan Bajo, Flores, Indonesia in September 2018. We are looking for an INDONESIAN national for the position of Assistant Marine Biologist.

The Assistant Marine Biologist will assist and be involved in all marine biology, conservation, and sustainability projects within the resort and in the local community of Labuan Bajo.

Previous knowledge is not mandatory since we will provide training for all aspects of the job, so we are looking for a highly motivated individual that is eager to learn new skills and work in marine conservation (in a hospitality setting).

Duties include (but not restricted to):

• Coral reef conservation via coral propagation and monitoring
• Activities with Kids Club such as presentations and hands on activities
• Marine life photo identification database e.g. mantas and sea turtles
• Possibility of joining guest excursions (Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and nearby islands) to help educate guests about marine life during the trip
• Promote sustainable practices in the resort by educating guests and staff e.g. reducing single use plastic
• Education and outreach to the local community including working with local conservation organizations
• Provide support for the dive team and water sports team when needed

Required Qualifications

• Indonesian nationality
• Bachelor’s degree in science (Preference given to marine biology or conservation)
• Fluent in English
• Confident swimmer and snorkeler
• Physically fit to work outdoors in the water or on boat for hours
• Comfortable working with kids
• Passionate to learn more about marine life and eager to participate in conservation projects

Preferred (but not necessary)

• Able to speak another language apart from English and Bahasa Indonesia
• Previous knowledge in marine biology or sustainability projects
• Previous experience in hospitality
